University Teaching Leadership Fellows: Application and Selection Process

Optional Information Sessions

Submit an Application (Deadline closed for the 2023 cohort)
Prior to submitting an application, a verbal or written expression of interest should be made to develop a project idea of interest to the College or Library and Institution. For faculty, the expression of interest should be made to the Associate Dean, Academic, or Department Chair/Director. Conversations with the Associate Dean, Academic, Department Chair, Director, and/or Dean prior to application are recommended to discuss the project and potential changes to the DOE. For librarians, the expression of interest should be made to the relevant Manager or Head. Conversations with the Associate University Librarian, Dean and/or Manager prior to application are recommended to discuss the project and potential changes to the DOE.

Letter(s) of Support

Recommended: A Letter of Support from one of the following:

Dean, Associate Dean, Academic, or Department Director/Chair - for faculty applicants. For UofG –Humber adjunct faculty applicants, a letter of recommendation can also be provided by the Vice Provost or Associate Vice Provost of Guelph-Humber. Applicants are encouraged to have conversations with their Dean and Director/Chair about their potential work as a Fellow, including potential changes to their DOE, prior to submitting their application. The Letter of Support should state how the Dean, Associate Dean or Director/Chair will actively supporting the Fellow in their work and recognize their time and effort as a Fellow. Include how the applicant’s DOE will change if they are awarded this appointment. If the College or Department is providing any additional resources, funding, or support, this should be noted in the letter of support.

Associate University Librarian, Head and/or Manager - for librarian applicants.
Applicants are encouraged to have conversations with their Manager and Head about their potential work as a Fellow, including potential changes to their DOE, prior to submitting their application. The Letter of Support should state how the Associate University Librarian, Head and/or Manager will actively supporting the Fellow in their work and recognize their time and effort as a Fellow. Include how the applicant’s DOE will change if they are awarded this appointment. If the Library is providing any additional resources, funding, or support, this should be noted in the letter of support.

- Optional: Up to two other letters of support can be included. If the proposed project involves significant collaboration with other campus offices or departments, the collaborator(s) should write a letter of support with a clear agreement to support and contribute to the project.
Letter(s) of Support should be emailed to provost@uoguelph.ca by either the letter writer or the applicant by the application deadline.
Review and Selection Process
The selection process is committed to equity and diversity in the representation of Fellows, including across all divisions and campuses at the University.
February 6, 2023: Application deadline.
February/March 2023: The committee conducts a review of applicants. The committee is comprised of:
- 2-3 U of G faculty members who are university- or national-level teaching award recipients
- An undergraduate and graduate student representative
- A representative from the Office of Teaching and Learning
- 2 University of Guelph individuals with expertise in the scholarship of teaching and learning, educational leadership, or nationally recognized excellence in teaching
By April 2023: The committee provides a ranked list of applicants to the Provost.
By May 2023: The Provost reviews recommendations and appoints individuals to be inducted as University Teaching Leadership Fellows.
July 1, 2023: University Teaching Leadership Fellows begin their 3-year appointment.
Evaluation Criteria
Each UTLF Selection Committee member will use the rubric below to review and score each application. Evaluation Rubric scores will provide an initial indicator of the relative strengths of the application. The Selection Committee will meet to engage in discussion about their evaluations, their rubric scores and merits of each application and rank all applications. The discussion will provide the opportunity to share each committee members’ reflection on the applications to develop the overall ranking list.
